Dispatched to local nursing home for “patient needing to go to the ER.” Upon arrival, facility’s nurse says patient needs to go to ER, the only level I trauma center in the area, for an IV. Just to start the line-no drugs pushed, not even saline, no other problems, just an IV placement.

Simple solution: $2000 bill to the care facility. They wont be using the ER for their IV needs in the future.
The pt is in a nurse home. She has health insurance and won’t even see the bill. That’s not a “simple solution” if the pt doesn’t even see the bill!
I work in a care facility and the nurses there are not allowed to start IVs (I have no idea the reasoning behind this policy). We have to send resident’s to the hospital to have IVs put in, though usually they prearrange it with the hospital and the ambulance picks them up at a scheduled time.
